you never know what you're gonna get!  I bet you haven't heard that in a long time :)

Today is Tuesday, which means it's a long time til the weekend, but also, it's CSA pickup day.  What is a CSA you might ask?  CSA stands for community-supported agriculture and you can read more about it here.  After writing yesterday's post and mentioning how Mike and I have changed up what we eat, I wanted to share our CSA and why it's so awesome!  When we first moved to SB we were so excited to find Fairview Gardens...they are right down the road from us and they have a really cute farm stand and about 12 acres of land...which is where 90% of our produce comes from.  At the beginning of the year, we signed up for 45 weeks and once a week I go pick up our food.  It's pretty awesome to have such fresh food, because literally, all our produce is picked from the fields about an hour before I go pick it up.

The fun thing about CSA's is that you truly never know what you're going to get that week.  It all depends on weather and other factors that determine which crops are ready to be picked.  At first, this imposed a problem because Mike and I would get a box full of random (yet delicious) assortments, such as a pumpkin and avocados and tons of other items that do not mix for your typical dinner.  After a few weeks, we've figured out our little system and we now plan out menus for the most of the week...not only does this help us use every single thing from the CSA but it eliminates that pesky problem of "Hey, uh Whit, um what do you want to eat tonight?" "Hmm, Mike I don't know...I just don't know what I want..."  Yeah, we've totally nipped that issue in the bud  :)

Lately we've been getting tons of carrots, and I mean TONS of carrots...good thing we like carrots.  Because I am OCD and uber-almost should be on medication-organized, I washed and peeled and trimmed all 38, yes 38, carrots this afternoon....my hard work looks so miniscule:

And here are a few other goodies from today:

And yes, that is a pumpkin on the left...also from the CSA.  If you've never cooked an entire pumpkin before, do it, I dare you.  It's like buying a used car without running the VIN number. Right before our drive across the country, Mike and I wanted to bring our own food, cause let's face it, fast food is just so overrated.  Sooo, I cooked up a nice little turkey (and by little I mean 19lbs) and then I decided to harvest our little pumpkin as well.  We ended up with enough pumpkin for pumpkin cookies, pumpkin cake, pumpkin pancakes, pumpkin muffins, pumpkin bars, pumpkin pie and pumpkin cheesecake.  The rest we were never able to finish. All I can say is that our kitchen looked like a tornado had ripped through a bakery...hand mixers, stand mixers, bowls, utensils, food processors and flour EVERYWHERE.  So just saying, take this as a warning if you decide to cook a pumpkin :)

Happy Tuesday!
