Today is a happy day in our household...it's Bear's birthday!  Because Bear is adopted, we are not quite sure about his exact birth date, so we guesstimated, or more like dedicated all of March to Bear!

When I first moved to Santa Barbara, I was devastated that I couldn't bring my dog, Lucy...she too, is a black labrador retriever, and a feisty one at that!  Lucy is going on 10 years this June and it would've been a really long move for her.  Soon after arriving, I started scouring all the local pet adoption agencies, but there were no black labs to be found.  It became a time consuming search, all I could think of was that I wanted and needed a furry companion for our new California digs and then one day while driving around, I saw a sign for DAWG.  I quickly googled them and found that they are a no kill shelter and they just happened to have a black lab waiting to be adopted!!!

Bear is simply the sweetest thing ever and I am so happy we found each other  :)  I do miss Lucy and I still love her, but I don't let on that I have found another lab out here...she would be upset with me.

We kicked off Bear's birthday week on Sunday with a few homecooked meals: eggs for breakfast and steak with rice for dinner (or more like we ran out of dog food on Sunday and Island Seed and Feed was closed...shh, don't tell Bear!)

Bear is 7 years old this month and is looking quite distinguished and handsome...he is quite the ladies man around the neighborhood!
